MARLENE GELFAND, BA, CTESL

was born in Montreal, Quebec.  She has more than 17 years experience as an adult educator with the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School board. She co-authored a teacher’s resource book, and has presented at professional conferences.  She has researched and written scientific articles and communication pieces for National Research Council publications.

She has managed, co-directed and implemented cost effective marketing strategies for a start-up alternative health care venture, and coordinated contractors for the development of a homeopathic self-assessment software. She has been a key administrator, researcher and website editor for Homeopathy Solutions since 2004.

Being a vegetarian for many years, she delved more deeply into a vegan diet when she attended her first “A Taste of Health” seminar cruise in 2009. After having attended many lectures and presentations by distinguished speakers, such as, Dr. Neal Barnard (founder & president of Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), Dr. T. Colin Campbell (researcher & author of the China Study), Dr. Will Tuttle (composer, speaker & author – The World Peace Diet), and Christina Pirello (Emmy award-winning host of Christina Cooks), it became abundantly clear that a plant based diet was harmonious to the body, environment and the welfare of all living beings.

Having been an adult educator for many years she felt it was her responsibility to share what she has learned, and help others who may be interested in better health and conscientious living to take steps towards achieving that goal.

Of her own mission she says: “No one can deny that we are in the middle of a health crisis, (rising obesity, heart disease and diabetes) which is not only affecting adults, but more and more children as well. Yet the connection between what we put into our bodies and the resulting effects seems to evade most people.  The answer could be as simple as changing what we eat – moving toward a whole foods, plant based diet. Helping people to understand and see the relationship between what we eat and our health, even if it affects one person at a time, is well worth the effort.  And in the process, we can leave a lighter footprint on the planet for the benefit of all living beings.”
